Vehicle FAQs

Obviously this depends on how much furniture you have. However, most people use our Luton Vans with taillifts, as these have a large, square loadspace and the taillift helps with loading heavy items. If you want to check the size of any vehicle in person, you are welcome to visit and look inside the vans.

Yes. We have a number of panel vans and a larger cars and estates fitted with tow bars, but you will need to request this when you book. A towing number plate is supplied, but you will need to make sure that your trailer is insured, as our policy will not cover whatever you are towing.

We often have a few vans that don't have any Kenhire graphics. If this is important to you, please make sure that you request a plain van well in advance.

Unfortunately, commercial vehicles are no longer allowed into the KCC Household Waste and Recycling Centre on Cobbs Wood; any waste in a van is considered trade waste has to be taken to an Enviroment Agency 'Permitted Waste Site'.

Yes. We offer free parking whilst you have a vehicle on hire. We will ask for your keys and park the vehicle in our secure compound until you return.

From October 2021 the Central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) expanded and will be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help improve the quality of London’s air.

All of our hire vehicles meet the October 2021 ULEZ emissions standards, so you won't need to pay if you drive our vehicles in the ULEZ.

Although we ask you to inspect the vehicle for damage at the start of the hire, there is no need for you to check for anything more. All our vehicles undergo a 100 item pre-rental inspection and are cleaned and tested before each hire. If you have the vehicle for a while, we would ask you to keep an eye on the oil and water levels, but you are welcome to bring it in to us occasionally, so that we can check it for you.

All our hire vehicles have emergency roadside assistance, with just one number to call: 0333 207 9654. Alternatively you can call us (our switchboard will give you an option to connect to an out of hours emergency number) and we will then organise whatever is the best solution: repair, recovery or replacement.

You need to notify us as soon as possible (our switchboard will give you the option to connect to an out of hours emergency number) and follow the procedure laid down in our terms and conditions. If you have taken our CDW, you will be charged the reduced excess (usually £150), although this would be refunded if we recover the accident costs from a third party. If the damage amounts to less than the excess, you will only be charged for the actual cost of repairs.

We have a number of Transit Custom vans with fold-away ladder racks fitted, and have a few racks to fit some of our smaller vans. Please make sure to request this at the time of booking.

We would prefer that you didn't, but providing that you protect the vehicle's interior and accept that you may be charged for any damaged caused by the animal and additional cleaning (particularly if we have to remove dog hairs), we would permit it.

Adblue is used to produce cleaner emissions in new (Euro 6 onwards) diesel vehicles. Many of Kenhire's latest vans and trucks have this technology, so the Adblue tank in these vehicles will need topping up from time to time, using the separate AdBlue filler cap. For short term hires this will rarely be a problem as we top them up pre-hire, but if the AdBlue does get low during your rental, a warning light will appear showing the mileage range remaining before a refill is needed.
