Which van is best for house removals?
Obviously this depends on how much furniture you have. However, most people use our Luton Vans with taillifts, as these have a large, square loadspace and the taillift helps with loading heavy items. If you want to check the size of any vehicle in person, you are welcome to visit and look inside the vans.
Do you have vehicles with tow bars?
Yes. We have a number of Transit vans and a few people carriers and larger cars fitted with tow bars, but you will need to request this when you book. A towing number plate is supplied, but you will need to make sure that your trailer is insured, as our policy will not cover whatever you are towing.
Do you have any unsignwritten vans?
We often have a few vans that don't have any Kenhire graphics. If this is important to you, please make sure that you request a plain van well in advance.
Which vehicles can gain access to the tip?
There is a 2 metre (6ft 6in) height barrier at the entrance to the KCC Household Waste and Recycling Centre on Cobbs Wood and no commercial vehicles are allowed into the site. However, this barrier is open on Wednesdays & Saturdays, allowing access to vehicles over 2 metres high, carrying domestic waste, so most of our Transits and smaller vans can gain entry on these days. KCC no longer allow you to carry waste into the site from outside.
Can I leave my own car with you?
Yes. We offer free parking whilst you have a vehicle on hire. We will ask for your keys and park the vehicle in our secure compound until you return.
Can your vehicles be used in the London Low Emission Zone?
Apart from the 7.5ton vehicles, all our vehicles are LEZ compliant. From January 2012 our 7.5ton Box Vans, Dropsides and Tippers will fall outside the emission restrictions, so please make sure that you tell us if you want to go into the M25 area as we will have to source an LEZ compliant vehicle for you.
Will I need to check the vehicle over?
Although we ask you to inspect the vehicle for damage at the start of the hire, there is no need for you to check for anything more. All our vehicles undergo a 100 item pre-rental inspection and are cleaned and tested before each hire. If you have the vehicle for a while, we would ask you to keep an eye on the oil and water levels, but you are welcome to bring it in to us occasionally, so that we can check it for you.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
All hire vehicles have emergency roadside assistance, the details of which are in the vehicle, but the best option is to call us (our answerphone will give you an out of hours number). We will then organise whatever is the best solution: repair, recovery or replacement.
What happens if I have an accident?
You need to notify us as soon as possible (our answerphone will give you an out of hours number) and follow the procedure laid down in our terms and conditions. If you have taken our CDW, you will be charged the reduced excess (usually £100), although this would be refunded if we recover the accident costs from a third party. If the damage amounts to less than the excess, you will only be charged for the actual cost of repairs.
Can I have a roof rack fitted?
We have a few ladder racks to fit some of our smaller vans and Transits. Please make sure to request this at the time of booking.
Unfortunately, we can no longer offer roof boxes.
Can I carry animals?
We would prefer that you didn't, but providing that you protect the vehicle's interior and accept that you may be charged for any damaged caused by the animal and additional cleaning (particularly if we have to remove dog hairs), we would permit it.
